A Small Devotional - Galatians 3:13

“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us…”

  • Galatians 3:13

Oh what great mystery, that the long awaited Christ would become for us a curse, and by his death on that rugged cross redeem us from that curse. For though we may not often recognize the weight that the curse laid upon our unrepentant souls, its burden did bear us down even to the depths of hell. For if the Lord blesses his people by declaring over them… “The Lord bless you and keep you;

the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;

the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

- Numbers 6:24-26

Does he not then curse all rebellious creation by likewise declaring over them…

“The Lord curse you and abandon you;

the Lord keep you in darkness and without his gracious light;

the Lord turn his face from you and give you endless strife.”

But what a beautiful and awesome Savior that Christ is, having become the curse for us! Through God the Son we no longer rest under the burden of the curse, but receive all the blessings that flow from our Heavenly Father.

Brothers and Sisters, do you recognize the true gospel? Do you marvel that God the Father, in his holiness, turned his gaze away from God the Son, in order that he may turn his blessed countenance towards you? May we who enjoy the blessings of God through Christ Jesus our Lord, be restless and persistent in our pursuit of those who remain under the curse. For in Christ, and in Christ alone, is there access to “every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” - Ephesians 1:3
